Abstract: Enterprises are currently collecting enormous amounts of data. The proliferation of social medial, mobile devices and sensor technologies are exploding the amount of data that is generated and collected each day. The capturing, storing and analysing this sea of data is becoming a challenge in most organisations. Yet those who manage to tame and make sense of this data can create enormous business value. This presentation will explore ?big data? and discuss the opportunities for creating competitive advantage through new business model innovation. The opportunities for careers in this new and emerging field will also be discussed.

About the Speaker: Professor Andy Koronios is the Head of the School of Computer & Information Science, in the Division of Information Technology, Engineering & the Environment, University of South Australia. Andy has extensive experience in both commercial and academic environments and has interests in electronic commerce, information quality, IT-mediated business models, enterprise architechture and information governance. He also has a keen interest in the changing role of the modern CIO and the development of IT professionals.
