These models were used to build large scale simulations of real world social, political and economic systems. He turned to experimental computational models and databases such as Linda, Jini, Rio and subsequently the mainstay of Big Data such as Map Reduce and NOSQL databases to craft these highly demanding simulations.
Cheemun also architected and helped build the informational scavenging system that mines data from thousands of web sources around the world. The data was then turned into input to various models in his simulation systems.

Mr. Goh Su Gim is a Security Advisor who represents F-Secure in the Asia Pacific region, where he is actively involved in activities that raise public awareness of the IT threat landscape. He can be found giving talks in conferences, and acting as a liaison between the public and the local F-Secure office in Kuala Lumpur. He stays on top of the latest IT security related news, blogs about the latest threats and attacks or interesting findings from the F-Secure Labs, and provides advisories to the general public and media should there be any virus outbreak.
Su Gim’s past 15 years of IT security experience includes working for several companies in the USA in the area of IT system integration, IT security consulting (network and systems design), penetration testing and assessment, and working at a 24/7 security operations center. Prior to returning to Malaysia, he lived in Hawaii, USA, for 12 years. During his free time, he enjoys playing badminton, jungle trekking, camping and photography.

Abstract:
3D films have a history of several decades, but only recently 3D video consumer products are gradually becoming popular. The focus of next-negation 3D research is on the so-called virtual-viewpoint (or free-viewpoint) video system. It is also an on-going standardization item in the international ITU/MPEG Standards. In addition to the movie special effects, one application of virtual-view system is the multi-view auto-stereoscopic (glasses free 3D) display.
Typically, a densely arranged camera array is used to acquire input images and a number of virtual view pictures are synthesized at the receiver using the depth-image based rendering (DIBR) technique. Three essential components are needed for building a virtual-view system: depth estimation, data compression, and view synthesis.
An interesting application of virtual-view system is 3D scene composition. It is an extension of the traditional chroma key technique but it now tries to merge two sets of 3D vide scenes into one consistent 3D scene. Another issue is depth map acquisition. Recent devices such as Microsoft Kinect offers an inexpensive hardware solution to this problem. However, its depth map quality needs to be improved. We will give a quick overview of these challenging topics and summarize our studies on these subjects.

Hsueh-Ming Hang received the B.S. and M.S. degrees from National Chiao Tung University, Hsinchu, Taiwan, in 1978 and 1980, respectively, and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, NY, in 1984.
From 1984 to 1991, he was with AT&T Bell Laboratories, Holmdel, NJ, and then he joined the Electronics Engineering Department of National Chiao Tung University (NCTU), Hsinchu, Taiwan, in December 1991.
From 2006 to 2009, he took a leave from NCTU and was appointed as Dean of the EECS College at National Taipei University of Technology (NTUT). He is currently the Dean of the ECE College, NCTU.
He has been actively involved in the international MPEG standards since 1984. Dr. Hang holds 13 patents (Taiwan, US and Japan) and has published over 190 technical papers related to image compression, signal processing, and video codec architecture. He is a recipient of the IEEE Third Millennium Medal and is a Fellow of IEEE and IET and a member of Sigma Xi.

After the profound success of defining H.264/AVC video coding standard in 2002, in the past a few years, the ITU-T Video Coding Experts Group (VCEG) and ISO/IEC Motion Picture Expert Group (MPEG) have been actively searching for new or improved technologies that can achieve an even higher compression efficiency.
After several years’ struggle, in January 2010, VCEG and MPEG formed a joint team and issued a call-for-proposal for the “High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC)”. This standard work item attracts a lot of attention and it was done in early 2013.
In addition, 3D video products are aggressively growing recently. One step further, the free-viewpoint video becomes the current MPEG standardization item. Its aim is to define an efficient data representation for multi-view (free-view) synthesis at the receiver, which can be a multi-view auto-stereoscopic (glasses free 3D) display.

W3C released the final recommendation of HTML5 last October. At that moment, a lot of browsers have already complied with this version. HTML5 has a lots of dynamic functions, especially multimedia and communications; these new functions, namely webRTC, WoT, and webApps, will be discussed in this talk and its relevance with AI technologies.
Biography:
Prof Jay is currently a Professor in Muroran Institute of Technology, Hokkaido, Japan. He is also serving as an Adjunct Professor to UTAR now.
He has been a member or leader for more than 20 government committees. He is a senior advisor to NTT, sits on advisory board of W3D and Board member of MMHL
He had been working at NTT Lab and NTT America more than 30 years. During NTT era, he had been studying and leading a variety of fields such as solid state physics through ICT and IPTV.
Previously, he served as a Professor at Univ. of Tokyo, a Visiting Professor at Kochi Univ. of Tech, Rikkyo Univ. and an Adjunct Professor at Hokkaido Univ.
